The day that physical media goes away completely, is the day I stop gaming.
Back in the day everyone had a console and pc, and they'd play on both, preferably on the console because it was just an easier setup, and I agree with that.... btw my friend told me that and I agree as a pc gamer.
The initial cost is far less and you get a bluray player, pc is too expensive.
to me, the biggest advantage that consoles should still have, is local couch multiplayer. However aside from some co-op additions in singleplayer games, the industry as a whole has abandoned local multiplayer.
Won't consoles always have better optimization with programmers having access to the low level code?
I understand the benefits of PCs but personally I'm not into em, I enjoy sitting on my sofa with a big screen, i buy my console complete and brand new and I'm sorted for a good time to come, and the results are damn impressive considering cost of consoles, so imo enjoy what u enjoy PC or console, but my choice is console, I grew up with em n still love them
isn't having physical game just a preference also? theirs a big debate physical over digital
I hope we don't ever move away from physical disc, I've always been a fan of being able have the copy of the game, While it is annoying to switch games, It still takes you back to old the days where you plugged game in and you're ready to go.
Consoles are low power x86 pcs. I work on computers all day, so I personally prefer relaxing on the couch with a console at home. PC is easily the best way to game, but it's just preference. You can setup a steam box, or stream games to your tv, so I see the argument to PC game. I also like handheld games when I'm home, so good points on each end. I wish people would just game the way they want, people argue more then they play the games. Great vid mate, glad you see both sides. Cheers.
Sony and Microsoft should learn from Nintendo and stop trying to compete with PC.
i love physical copies. i can play them whenever i want and the company cant delete it off my hard drive like a digital copy.... also current games take a massive amount of space which severely limits your ability to have a collection UNLIKE PHYSICAL COPIES if its physical you own it and if you take care of it... you will have the game for a long time.... unlike digital titles whos games frequently get removed from stores once licences expire preventing you from downloading it.
I think this is unfair, if i asked everyone i know who owns a console why that bought it i bet non of them will say physical games. The true advantage is convenience. You get an all- in-one gaming package for a very competitive price (hardware wise). It's easy to use from the couch. You can of course couch game on your pc too, but then you''d have to get a gaming pc with a very small form factor and boot it up in steam big picture mode or something, and what if you want to play a non steam game? All games work from the get go. No looking a spec requirements. Also something should be said about exclusives. The pc has way more of course, but it's about the specific games, not the quantity. Right now I'm borrowing a ps4 just to finally play Bloodborne (best fucking game ever). They market their exclusives very well, which gives a lot of selling power.
What if more consoles go back to cartridges? This would be a step up from discs because of shorter load times and hard drive space wouldn't be as important. It could bring back some simplicity to the systems.
I don't wanna start a war, but in MY OPINION, console gaming feels like the right way to game. It feels natural. BUT THATS JUST ME
You're calm and collected 11/10
I prefer consoles, but your points are valid. PC is, overall, a better option. There's no beating around the bush that the 8th generation of consoles was lacking in power from the very beginning. I just happen to like the TV experience and using a controller. You can do these things on PC; I typically get non-multiplayer multi-platform games on PC and play them using an XBox One controller (I do use a monitor, however, to get better frame rates). However, you're just asking for it when you go into a multiplayer game on PC while using a controller, especially a shooter. There are two nitpicks I have with your argument, though. My experience with PC multiplayer has always been very hit and miss. Companies like Blizzard and Dice do a great job providing a stable online experience and are quick to deal with cheaters. However, there's a good deal of PC games where the online is very spotty and/or full of cheaters. The closed nature of the consoles does provide an online environment with much less cheaters and the connection is typically pretty good (unless some jerks happen to DDoS the servers). The 8th gen consoles have, thus far, hosted the most cheater free online experience I've ever partaken in. The other issue is that there are a good chunk of poorly optimized multi-platform games on PC (games by Square Enix and Activision specifically come to mind).
loving your content!
LONG POST (didn't mean to go on a rant): Well there's also better online support for multiplayer console games. Sure BF1 on PC has better graphics and runs smoother, but how long will people actually continue to play the game? The longevity of multiplayer games on console is huge advantage that you didn't bring up. Plus, this depends on the game, but with PC gaming, comes hackers. Which is terrible considering how much smaller the player base is on the platform. And yes, there are hackers on consoles, but it's much more of an issue on the PC. People like to hate on consoles, but in all honesty, if you can afford to just upgrade systems it's really not that bad. Want a PS4 Pro? Just sell your PS4 original, and boom, huge discount, even gaming store were offering discounts if you exchanged your pre-upgrade consoles. Want to bump up your graphics card? Welp, $300 (and goodluck selling your used pc parts). There are cheaper ones? Well sure, but then what's the point of playing on PC if your gonna skimp on the parts necessary to make it significantly better than consoles? (exactly why it's hard to sell your old parts) Another point, is that most people don't have the time to take full advantage of the PC capabilities. Kind of an odd statement, but hear me out. The only people who really benefit from PC gaming is those who game hours, hour and hours upon the day. Let's talk modding about for example, which many PC gamers talk about as a big advantage (which is not quite as so anymore, but still), many of the games that are popular to mod are ones like Skyrim and The Witcher III. I don't know many people who aren't huge gamers, who have the time to beat The Witcher III and then dive into mods. Usually, they beat one game, and go onto the next. So I guess my point is that, the argument for PC gaming being better is just kinda silly. Yes, it has great graphic and performance triumphs, but who will that really benefit? So this part of my message targets more of the obsessive PC fanboys, but when they try to convince people that they're are making a mistake by gaming on a console, it's pretty... feebleminded. Most people don't want or need to play on PC, it's simply not practical. So for most people, console are better. Better specs, do not equal a better gaming platform. And FSAPO, I know you have a lot of love for console players too, so I'm not bashing you, just pointing something out about the useless PCvConsole argument/dilemma. Also, in case you're curious about online pop: http://bf1stats.com/
There is another advantage the current consoles have over PCs that is rarely talked about - it's a closed system. This means games like For honor that have a massive problem on PC with connections, the division that was swarming with modders, just don't have these issues. This doesn't make a big difference for the player but for companies it does. Developing for a console requires less time and management. This was of course cracked on last gen consoles (GTA online was horrible on ps3/xbox 360) but it's always going to be easier to manipulate a PC then the closed ecosystem of a console. I always buy my single player games on PC, and normally the mulit-plats as well but games like GTA I play on ps4 more because I know the guy I'm playing with isn't cheating.
