@quindelin

I can thank Tim every time I see a beautiful sunset reflect off the water in Oblivion remastered. Jedi Fallen Order, Borderlands, Deep Rock Galactic, Bioshock, and Deus Ex (just to name a few) have all made my life so much more fun, vibrant, and entertaining. And it wouldn't have been possible without him figuring out all these light mapping edge cases and what not through 30 hour programming sessions. Dude is the absolute goat

@SecksyMan

Bring back Unreal Tournament!

@rickenbacker472

The dawn of realtime 3D was the most exciting time. I started writing 3D engines in DOS as a teenager and my first jobs were working on game engines. I loved coming up with bespoke algorithms for lighting, culling etc. Those were fun times.

@paulbieles1956

I had a plan for a game back in 1995ish that I put on the early web - I was studying Computer Science and working at IBM at the time. I was sent the code for Unreal before Unreal became a thing, asking if I could use it to create my game. I think it could have even been Tim that sent it to me I don't think I ever thanked him. I was too embarrassed to ask questions.

@mstewart248

Damn dude you didn’t understand a word he said. UnrealED wasn’t a crappy editor. It was a very good editor that would show you results in real time. That was the difference between the Quake engine and Unreal Engine at the time. In Unreal ED you could see your map fully built and lit in minutes or seconds where a Quale map you would have to let it build for hours before you could actually see how the map looked.

That said this interview has given me a lot more appreciation for Tim Sweeney.

@frostthebehemothcat667

Dr. Naylor was my comp sci professor! Really great guy - super smart. I never could wrap my tiny brain around BSP tree merging tho.... 9:05

@GeorgesChannel

Unbeleivable Fog story..:) Really looking up to this guys talent and dedication.

@computerroom-w7x

thanks for reminding me again how dumb i am.

@lordb8

I love lex but everytime he says "we humans" I feel he is some sort of Dr. Manhatan

@damionrichter

its really easy to do anything in computer graphics but once you have a massive codebase or project you run into the issue of dependencie tracing like if you dont make everything work in unison it will break and error handling is archaic and not effecient

@iahrens55

You need to get the guys from bohemia to come in and talk about dayz and arma game titles

@damionrichter

im so excited to use unreal 5 for a game i want to translate my ideas with unreal...

@jayfullerton6981

The revolution is UEVR created by Praydog

@gruntaxeman3740

How Unreal Engine revolutionized video games?

@tbird216

I used to clean Cliff’s pool. He’s kind of a tool 😅

@Khaos969

I wanna see a new suit one day

@xaviere.3299

We are fed up of the Unreal BS....it's a heavy ass shit engine that is absurdly clogged with shit collected over a decade. It's a nightmare to work with.

@GurbyTheGreat

It sure did revolutionize brutal traversal stutter in every game that uses it.

@benzos5704

Lex, I haven’t listened to you in a while because you bummed me out SO much with the Zelinksi interview. You preach about goodness but used Russian talking points about Zelinski and corruption. I expected so much better from you.
