@MasteringMidlifeWithHeidi

I really enjoyed this take on minimalism and all the pressure we put on ourselves, esp as women, to think we’re doing it wrong if we’re not doing it like them ! We already guilt and shame ourselves for enough things - it’s time to stop! Thank you for putting this video together!! 🥳

@JudithMarshall-c6y

Raina, you talk so much sense! Thanks for bringing some reality to the whole 'minimalist wardrobe ' thing. Yet another thing for us women to feel guilty about! Thanks for keeping it real!

@tjohnson1711

You said this perfectly. Many influencers or content creators I see talk about clothing that’s so false for me as a NYC resident who experiences all 4 seasons. Even when they show fall or winter fashion , I’m like I’d never be able to wear those items. It’s like an aspirational seasonal wardrobe

@Sophie-dl8lu

I'm wearing 8 items of clothing (including underwear) while watching your video. If I go outside I will need to put on a coat - that's 9. Lets hope my tenth item is a sack I can put on while washing my entire wardrobe😂

@communicato1

I have collected coats as well, not excessively but after spending 6 months in one winter coat one year I dreaded putting it on so I adopted the variety is the spice of life/ sanity attitude😂. I don’t buy fast fashion, I sew a lot of my wardrobe. I don’t have too many clothes but I enjoy them and don’t feel guilt or the need to count them.
Also the “ if you didn’t wear it for a year get rid of it” doesn’t work for me because I’ll choose a favourite for a season and wear it a lot but the next season I may not pick it up, but I know I it will again and I’m happy to see it again when the weather rolls that way again .

@maryanneq9462

You are so right Raina! Being real and practical is the key 😊

@mnop1774

Yes! Thank you Raina. You are spot on and the winter coat category especially hits home. I live in the midwest and like you, I need a variety of coats for varying degrees of cold. Lately I've felt guilty for owning so many but you are right! We live in cold climates and the season is long enough that I get tired of my most worn puffers. Some days I want to pull out the vibrant, Farm Rio puffer that makes a statement. I love variety too and I'm no minimalist yet I think I am balanced and sensible about my wardrobe. I love your approach and perspective.

@paulabaldasaro784

Love you and your content Raina...a voice of reason. Always a touch of humour. I also enjoy Benita Larsson.

@amandazplace5663

Thanks for tackling this topic without actually naming the influencer. I followed her for years. I finally had to unsubscribe because, though I loved some of her content, much of it did not align with my income level, my climate, etc.
I believe she doesn't include t-shirts in her 10 items because, originally, she only wore dresses. As time went by she began including jeans & pants, so I can't understand why t-shirts aren't included (but, blouses and sweaters are).
As well, where she lives is basically, one climate (Canadians would all agree). But, she creates 4 seasonal capsule wardrobes (40 items + extras). Very few items get transitioned from one season to the next. But, they definitely could be. She clearly does get bored after 3+ months and wants change.
She also spends $100's on one item. That's fine. She can afford it. She says it's better to buy better quality & spend more because it lasts longer. I agree, if you can afford it! But, she recently said she replaces her clothes every year because her viewers want to see new items for ideas.
Her content is heavily sponsored so I imagine, somewhere in those contracts, she has to purchase and "advertise" those items a certain number of times.
As a long time YouTube watcher, it's taken me a while to pull back the veil and realize that much of what we see in all media is someone's creative artistry and a modern day version of a t.v. commercial. Enjoy it, but keep your wits about you!

@angelicamason1650

Thanks Raina. Good no nonsense advice. To me it’s not about being minimal but being intentional about what I have in my wardrobe and what I purchase. Hope you have a good trip home to Calgary.

@patriciateague8677

I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe but, realistically, we all want fresh new pieces from time to time. I read recently that, on average, we only wear about 10 percent of what we own. That doesn't surprise me. I think reviewing what's in our closet and what we are actually wearing is a great idea and should be done regularly. I did a larger clear out after I retired, but I know I could get rid of more. I can tell you when I lost weight, I got rid of much of the larger pieces, but I am glad I saved my favorite jeans. I gained back some of the weight, so I was glad to have them.

@wildpeace

Such a good topic and perspective, thank you. Benita is one of my favourite channels to watch.

@kats_journey_00

You're right, I too have far too many clothes. However, now that I'm retired, I do like the idea of a capsule wardrobe. I read something really good last week about decluttering—"Once the thing is gone, you will no longer feel the guilt about buying it and never wearing it or the money you spent on it". I liked that and it's very true as I declutter.

@Elizabeth-d1n

Another reason not to listen to influencers! I mean, seriously, who cares? Create the wardrobe that works for you, whether you're traveling or staying home.

@carolynmeadows4538

Good Job!!! I agree with your comments on guilt. Women are bombarded with things to feel guilty about. It needs to stop.

@NorahRene

I completely agree, I think there are many influencers whose suggestions are far more aspirational than they are practical. I live in a hot humid climate and due to sweating I can often go through multiple tops each day (and through the night), also due to weight fluctuations I need different options for my pants. At this time of my life it makes no sense to purchase expensive items of clothing nor is it practical for me to have a very minimal number of items. The capsule collection idea also does not work for me, rather I need multiples of the same or similar items. I can relate to and enjoyed Bernita Larsson's style uniform video. Thank you, enjoyed hearing your perspective 😄

@veralubov7405

Hi Raina! It has never occurred to me to count the items in my wardrobe. In Ontario, we do need much more than 10, for sure. When I was working, I purchased more than now and have recently discarded some pieces, which I do not like any more. But there are some, no matter how old they are, I still cherish them...I have always listened to myself, especially do it at this stage of life; FREEDOM is key. Have a safe and pleasant trip home-to our sweet home-Canada.

@rebeccamckenna2378

Hi Raina! Another great video! I love clothes but have been diligently shop mindfully and keep my closet under control. I wholeheartedly agree with what you said in you video: Life is too short, enjoy and appreciate what we love and have. I also love Bernita Larsson and Malalma Life here on Youtube, but I find that I can relate to your content the most (possibly because we are similar in age and stages in life). Look forward to your next one when you are back in Calgary! Safe journey back!

@Shelleytg8gb

As a fellow retiree, I can finally enjoy wearing the multiple pieces in my wardrobe at my leisure!!
Even if I’m home or going for a walk 🤩 😎

@muzzable

I follow Benita also and I agree her wardrobe fits her lifestyle and she seems totally comfortable with it. Try living through a Virginia summer with only 10 pieces of clothing 😂! Your vacation flew by ! I sincerely hope you enjoyed the time spent with your family! Have a safe trip home.
