I dont think its a mistake. Player 303 played marbles with player 040 in the game, but when we saw player 040 die we could see that he was playing with another player his number ended in ...26 but later in the game we didnt see him there either. I tried asking ChatGPT and it told me that they probably swapped partners which is againt the rules so they killed both partners. Before the game started we saw 39 players, player 212 didnt find a partner so she didnt play, so 38, half of the players died so there are 19 left. Player 069 hung himself so 18, but when the glass bridge was played there were 16, so if they killed both twos it would still be minus 2 and thats 16. It makes sense

No…303 is a player but also a doctor…he takes organs out of dead bodies in a secret room we see him go in eventually and puts them inside a plastic bag of water…the guards put the plastic bags in a black back they carry as they scuba dive in water taking the organs to some boat. he helps to find out what the next games are to help him win. That’s why he isn’t in the starting room most of the time. Later in the show they show him and one of the guards being killed by the frontman…the guard took off his mask which we all know is against the rules…idk why the doctor/player 303 really got killed…maybe because he was cheating or because he saw the guards face. Either way that’s why he’s not there most the time

Guys I looked on the squid game wiki basically what happened was 303 and 040 were cheating together causing both of them to get eliminated.

No what presumably happened was 040 lost a marble somewhere and the guards shot him and 303 realized he only had 19 marbles and he was presumably also shot. Probably switching with someone else making the other person pass and 303 get out and the person 303 repaired with passed over him

This was definitely a mistake behind the scenes, however the in-universe explanation is that similar to player 111 where the games were rigged for him I imagine something similar happened with this player.
