@daytona3927

You live in CA so you know this happened. We had our usual heat wave and we were told to raise thermostats, bla bla AND DO NOT charge your EV. And that's with less than 5% EV's on the road. Imagine when that number gets to 50% EV's on the road, the grid will be crashing every day. The geniuses here also want to shut down our last nuke plant, won't that be wonderful. I'll keep my gas-powered car.

@bowefamilyEV

You can filter the charge location results by clicking on those lightning bolts so that it only shows the high-power DC fast chargers. This will keep things like the one at the apartment complex from even showing up. The reliability of the EA and other charger networks though has been a pain point for sure.

@apollomoon1

Before they can fix all of these issues a better alternative will present itself. There are many on the horizon. Good video thanks for sharing.

@axdesho

Your honesty is so appreciated. It’s hard to get good valid information from electric vehicle people. Thank you so much!

@stephenantoniou5695

Thanks for this video, you really pointed out some problems with me buying an electric truck, which I seriously looked into. I live in Massachusetts and my truck is a work truck. My range with it is MA and RI and I have only seen one supercharging station in ALL of my traveling. One interesting thing you mentioned is that a few of the charging stations did not work. I think that is going to be a very real problem in the future and for arguments sake, I had the electrical trailer connection to my work trailer cut off in Fall River Ma because someone wanted the copper to sell for drugs! I cannot imagine chargers lasting to long around here. Thanks again for the REAL video. Guess I will have to wait and see what develops before I buy electric.

@gjforeman

Seems like the charging locations could use a camera network you could pull up on your Ford display, showing status of the chargers, AND a live stream showing how many slots are currently in use.

We were weighing a new plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle, but the vehicle we were looking for is primarily planned to be used for long-distance road trips. With the charging issues these days, we just bought a standard, gas-burning Subaru Ascent. 25 MPG, but NO PROBLEMS getting it fueled up and on our way.

@vinsonhelton7141

Very well balanced video about your situation with ev's.
I live in Michigan which isn't as ev fast charging friendly as some other states especially if you live away from the city type areas.
I have a chevy bolt and charge at home. Never need to charge at fast chargers. But I use the bolt for 95 or more percent of my driving. I have solar to and it's a lot easier to charge the bolt.
My point is that ev's work awesome in certain situations right now so get one if it is in that parameter. Or wait til the parameters change. There are a lot of people in many different states that can use ev's to do most of their day in and day out driving and charge exclusively at home. Also they have more than one vehicle and can road trip or tow and haul with a gas vehicle and still benefit greatly.

I didn't buy my platinum to save the world, probably the furthest thing from my mind. 1sr reasonfor buying it, I've been an electrician all my life. Love new electrical gadgets. I installed my own 13 kw solar system. Have owned several Toyota Prius. Wanted an all electric but never bought one. Finally ford came out with all electric truck. I've owned GMC, Chevrolet, Dodge, & Ford trucks. My last 3 were F150. I traded in my 2014 F150 V8 & 2018 Prius which got the price down to about $50k. I put a down payment on a mannequin back in June 2022. So I had plenty of time to get to know the vehicle I'd own in 6 months. Test drove it every Monday for 2 hours, probably watched close to 100 youtube videos on it. After 4 months my dealer allowed me to take it for the weekends, then the final month, the owner of the dealership let me take it home for that entire month. So I was the one that put the majority of the 5k miles that were on it, when I took possession of it December 5th.

2nd reason I bought it was to rid myself of all the maintenance required on my ICE vehicles. I was also the mechanic that did all the work, that was required on them.

3rd reason as I mentioned I have solar that runs my home, with grid as backup and 11 kw generator as 2nd backup, now I have a 3rd backup, with a 10 awg drop cord I connect my truck bed receptical to my solar inverter/charger and charge my solar batteries while powering my home and everything in it, including my deep well pump & all the tools in my shop. It tows & hauls like my 2014 f150 did only much cheaper. I can drive approximately 100 miles for $5.
I couldn't even drive my prius that far unless I could buy gas for $2,50/gal. I haven't seen those prices for many years. This has been a lengthy comment but wanted to express my true feelings about my lightning. One last key point. At the present this is not the best vehicle to buy for long distance traveling or towing. Not the trucks fault, that falls on the vehicle's charging infrastructure. Once there are as many charging stations as there are gas stations there won't be a range issue.

@yvongauthier4409

@Jetters Garage; there is something that you should mention about the charging locations... over time you will know where the best ones are located in your area. The problems you've talked about would be more of an inconvenience when going on long trips. The biggest "pro" for EVs is that you can charge at home so you never have to go "fill up" somewhere

@SilverWatcher.

Ford dealerships should have free chargers at their dealerships mandatory

@DanBudda

You’re not a whiner, in fact you’re a EV romantic with a realist streak. Great video. Enjoy your truck and keep us posted on your travels and travails. Me, I’m sticking with my hybrid RX350h and my 36MPG with no plug involved. But I love hearing from you EV pioneering cowboys. Thanks for doing all the dirty work for the rest of us!

@Esteban7GT

Thank you for the awesome content. Definitely good to see someone addressing all of the great things and the challenges that come with ev ownership and in particular when it comes to ev trucks. Best wishes and keep up the great work!

This is why I bought a V6 gas powered Tacoma. Pull up to pump, fill up, go.

Will the electric meter spin faster than the Griswalds' at Christmas?

@knpstrr

For those wondering, the Lightning is roughly 9-10 Tesla powerwalls. 2-4 powerwalls is plenty for most houses for backup with solar. The lightning is a beast

@phil4986

Great video. First off, your F150 intro should be used by Ford because it really highlights the various features of the truck.
 Secondly, the apps need to get way better at showing the status of every charging unit real time. The entire charging process is digitally recorded real time so it would take nothing to tell you there are three chargers, two are not working at all and the third is occupied by a vehicle at 63% and that will require another hour to complete the charge. It is absolutely horse 'stuff' that the charging apps just give a ...there it is... location report. The digital information should be so complete as to prevent you from making fifteen stupid trips to fifteen places that have malfunctioning or occupied chargers.
Thirdly, people don't have any right to say you are a whiner. The solar panels are at least thirty grand. I am guessing the Tesla walls were at least thirty grand and the truck is one hundred grand. The charger installation was probably another three grand. So that's $163,000 you spent before the Ford ever made a mile. (I know my numbers are probably hilariously low) A used ICE truck is less than ten to twenty grand, and it can outrange your truck forever towing anything. I know the solar panels and especially the Tesla battery walls let you reuse stored power but that's beyond a majority of Americans right now.
Please keep updating us on your electric charging challenge experiences.
The truth is always appreciated.
I just hope your Ford is reliable for you. There have been some issues with batteries dying in new Ford Electric F150's recently. Covered by warranty though obviously.

@abacusexpress

Have Tesla manage ford pass app for the ev

@pom044

You can use it to power your house during an outage, but then you might have no power in your house and a dead battery in your car. I’ll stick with an ICE and a gas backup generator
