In Germany the 690 SMCR (/701/700) is one of the most popular bikes, you see them a lot. Its just popular among the youth (most of the popular germany motorbike youtubers ride supermotos) and germans are smart and think things through. Being aware that mostly you are allowed a maximum of 100kph (carving curves is more fun than Autobahn) the supermoto is going to be the most fun bike for the endless amount of tight curvy roads ranging from south germany to italy/france and even to croatia
riding 50 years all makes and models , currently on a smcr690 ... what a ridiculous fun bike ! 1st sumo , 1st ktm . absolutely love it
in europe there are a lot of sumos, they even made 50cc versions (almost all of them were modified to 70/80 or even100cc) and they could be ridden at just 15 years, which made the sumo life accesable to a younger audience and inturn making people life long sumo riders.
not even mentioning all the euro 50cc sumos is criminal
I feel like the KTM 390 SMC-R should help KTM climb out of bankruptcy. The price is right, it has decent features, and great power for it's entry level category. THANKS FOR BRINGING AWARENESS TO SUPERMOTOS YAM!
My 690 smr was one of my favourite bikes ever. Nothing like riding a slow bike fast.
When I first seen one drive by I was blown away never wanted something so bad. Bought a DRZ and a few years later upgraded to a 701. Can't recommend them enough
i feel extremely called out since i'm a guy from the netherlands who owns a supermoto and for most of his life talked about wanting to get one. but having owned my ktm 690smc for almost 5 years now and having used it as my only form of long distance transportation for 4 of those years i still love it to death and would never want to trade it for a different kind of motorcycle
I remember one of my first bike events I went to was a supermoto race at a small track and I was hypnotized. My babysitter brought me randomly one day. Absolutely fell in love with motorcycles after that
I started on sumos back in the day. Had a KX250 converted and plated. There's nothing like two stroke mayhem for getting around town.
I am 36 years old. I bought a bmw r1100r for $1000. I changed a few things and it runs flawlessly. I think the big issue for a taller guy who weighs around 225 is the ability for a "beginner" bike to go highway speeds. When you are new like I am, you want to be able to ride or commute and you don't want to waste money on something that can't do highway speeds and because I don't have the knowledge and experience, it was hard to siphon truth from all the noise. I would hear that beginner bikes would be too small or slow for somebody like me. I also was not going to go to a dealership and get scammed. That left me to craiglist hunting. I think I lucked out and got a good bike, but I think a lot of us who are new to the hobby don't really have a lot of choice because we don't know enough and we don't want to get scammed. (edit: I live in Arizona where highway speed is basically 90mph, the speed limit is 75mph in a lot of places but most people go 10 or more over.)
I own a ‘23 690 SMC-R and absolutely love it. Most fun I’ve had on a bike!
motorcycling has increased in the netherlands with 5%. while in the USA it keeps decling. Probably because americans dont seem to think about motorcycles as a affordable means for transportation. They seem to be more like a leisure a hobby a statement, look at me now i have a motorcycle and belong to a club type of thing. while here it is very natural to go for a bike after you have cycled your whole youth to get around. Cant wait for the KTM SMC as i will be buying one. KTM is also a very popular brand here, and KTM is far from dying whatever people say.
I JUST bought a 2022 DRZ400sm (I know, your favorite) and of all the bikes I have ever owned, it is by far the funniest I have owned so far! First sumo but definitely will not be my last!
if you compare 390 smc\enduro\adventureR specs you may see that this is just the same bike with different wheels and tires (same frame, engine.suspension, ergonomics). I really considering buying 390 adventure R for bigger fuel tank and a pair of 17 inch wheels with road tires for occasional track days. Its like 3 bikes for 1
I have an RXV 550 with street tires on stock wheels and it's a blast to ride!
really good video today yam!
As a beginner I appreciate what the KTM 390 SMC R has to offer. With its low seat height and fairly low cost of entry it’s really well positioned. Will be picking one up as soon as my dealer opens allocation.
14:19 yeah shoutout to the Netherlands ❤😂
