My family enjoys watching you weekly. Our 26-year old son William died in September. He loved watching you. We live in Nashville, Tennessee, and he lived in Chattanooga. On Sunday nights we would cue up your latest video and have a long-distance watch party. We would count down 3-2-1, start the video, and then have a good time watching and commenting to each other about your various projects. Once William took a solo vacation in a tent and told us that he was "living like Martijn" and loving it. We find your videos comforting and marvel at the beauty of your part of the world. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
The stove and stair combo looks absolutely amazing. Like a real fairy tale
Tack!
The rock work on the fireplace is beautiful!!❤
The tent base deserves a Viking funeral, a beacon to be seen from Turin. End of an era. Great post as usual.
When I saw you sitting in front of the fireplace in a chair I had one word “Yes!” - it’s a home now! Joyful🙏🏼
WHEN MARTYN BALANCES ON FLOORING HIGH ABOVE THE FIRST FLOOR, ITS LIKE HE HAS BEEN BORN TO RESTORE THESE OLD STONE BLDGS, & FACT ELECTRONIC AGE SUPPLIES THE MEANS TO SHARE AROUND OUR PLANET, ITS OVERWHELMING TO BE A WITNESS TO THIS ONE MAN'S DREAM FOR THE FUTURE. GOD SPEED TO YOU FROM US ALL!❤😂
You are an amazing human being Martijn, I was devastated when your chickens got attacked and mourned when you found your girl deceased, I felt your pain. I look forward to seeing the progress you make every week and admire your strength and craftsmanship, it is awe inspiring. Thank you for sharing your life with the world, I appreciate the chance to watch your journey.
The stove wall, stairs, the curve in the upstairs' floor- all gorgeous. You work so hard! I sense your fatigue. May you rest well, and feel better very soon, and may the chickens stay warm!
These vids are always the highlight of my week. Not even kidding. It brings such joy to see this project come together. The attention to detail. The visuals and not knowing what comes next? So happy for you Martijn and all that are watching too. Cheers!
Dear Martijn you’re such an inspiring person. Watching your videos is for me a moment of self reflection. When I look at the way you progress little by little towards your goal, I reflect on my own small achievements and I am grateful and proud of what I’ve done so far. You’re also amazingly strong, working hard and sleeping in a tent for 1.5 years, embracing the setbacks of living in the nature with humbleness and resilience. A role model. I wish you to get well soon and all the luck to settle in the first cabin as soon as possible.
What a milestone, Martijn. Congratulations on the move! Also, I've been waiting to see this snowstorm after seeing TV footage of how bad it was. Stay safe, my friend.
Sounds like you need to build an octagon structure where the tent was to recharge your human batteries and view your awesome land...and to invite workers to come.
The curve on the floor where it meets the stairs is beautiful love it
I'm a lot older than your mother, but I have to say I had my heart in my mouth watching you stepping around on those beams. It was hard for me to watch, so I was thinking of her watching, too. God bless you! I hope your cold goes away this week. I'm so in awe of what you're doing there. It's so wonderful to see the care you give to your chickens. Thank you so very much for sharing your life with us!
I almost forgot the beautiful workmanship you did on the platform for the tent. Such perfection!
A little sad to see the end of the tent era, tho personally, I don’t think I would have lasted as long as you did in a cloth structure in the mountains in the winter. There was a beauty and simplicity about the tent that kept the natural world very near, albeit at times distressingly. Cabin life looks warmer, more solid, and more real for some reason…more rooted. I’m excited to see the cabin develop and become a home!
That must have been quite a day moving out of the tent, Martijn. She served you well but I'm sure you're relieved you'll be living under a solid roof this winter. Take it easy for a while now and soak in the warmth and beauty of your new home while you work...it's truly a masterpiece!
The end of an era. Congratulations.
