3rd method: (X+7)²=25; take the square root of both sides: √(X+7)² =±√25 X+7 = ± 5; subtract 7 from both sides: X=± 5-7 X = 5-7 or X= -5-7 X= -2 or X= -12
As one of the other comments said, simply take the square root of both sides, remembering that sqrt 25 is +5 and -5. Doing the subsequent algebra yields x= -2 x= -12.

(x+7)^2=25 I think, some will try to take the square root on bozj sides and miss, that sqrt(t^2) is not just t but |t| (because square root is by definition the positive solution, but x+7 may be negative). If we try to solve the equation with taking the sqzare root on both sides, we have to do: sqrt((x+7)^2)=sqrt(25) |(x+7)|=5 (x+7)=5 or -(x+7)=5 x=6-7 or -x=5+7 x=-2 or x=-12 I would prefer another solution: (x+7)^2=25 (x+7)^2-25=0 (x+7)^2-5^2=0 ((x+7)+5)*((x+7)-5)=0 (x+12)*(x+2)=0 x+12=0 or x+2=0 x=-12 or x=-2 With this solution, it is nearly impossible to forget the second solution ...

(-2+7)^2=25 (-12+7)^2=25 x=-12 x=-2
