sam harris is not saying you MUST trust the institutions no matter what, all he said was "If you lose trust in institutions, or if the institutions have failed you, you don't go to joe rogan or dave smith for information or truth, you still need scientists and researchers, you don't just demolish institutions just because one of them failed". and yeah, you're not a trustworthy source for anything dave smith, people should still prefer scientists and researchers over comedians for source of truth.

Dave Smith is like a walking straw man argument. In some of the recent JRE podcasts he basically interviewed himself by providing some of the dumbest arguments of others to show he is smart. I don't mind him but at the same time he seems to me like a failed comic who got into politics because he can't be funny enough only as a vcomedian. He is in this weird middle ground between being intellectual and comedian while he fails to be intellectual or comedian.

What Harris and Murray mean to say is "Doing talk about Israel's killing tens of thousands of Palestinian children 🤫". Most of us would recognise that we have a moral duty to talk about genocide when we see it. If you didn't speak out against the Holocaust because you weren't an "expert", history would have judged you very harshly for it.
