It didn’t fail. It got cellular and became the iPhone SE series. The iPod touch was just the low priced iPhone.
The iPod touch was honestly such a big brain move. A LOT of kids got introduced into Apple’s ecosystem at a young age because of it. If your parents couldn’t afford/give you an iPhone, they’d buy you an iPod as they understood that it didn’t have cellular capabilities. Those same kids have then transitioned into an iPhone and have had that as their primary device as it has created brand loyalty with Apple, or it was something that they can finally obtain. Now that parents nowadays are buying Apple Watches/iPhones for their kids, the iPod legacy sits with the iPhone SE as you can buy it without an activation needed.
“Doomed from the start” Didn’t they sell millions of them throughout multiple generations?
Hardly “doomed from the start” the iPod touch had seven generations (last one came out in 2019 and was cancelled in 2022) and was pretty popular in the early iPhone days. If you didn’t have an iPhone 3G/3Gs/4 you likely had an iPod touch. The early marketing for the iPod touch was mobile gaming and watching videos.
I still use a 2012 5th gen iPod Touch in my car, just easy to sync it through iTunes (still use that too) and have it ready to access via the car's bluetooth.
I was actually “lured” into the iphone thanks to my ipod touch. I had an android at first but i liked my ipod touch more and more and when my android eventually hit the bucket i bought an iphone 4 and then i’ve had a 5,6 plus ,8 plus,11 pro max and 14 pro max. Although i’ve had the idea to jump ship the past 2 years because the last 5 years of phones has been meh
Not me watching this on an original iPod touch tho😢
I had an ipod touch. Loved it. It was thinner than the iphone
They kept making them until 2022🤦
I had an iPod touch back in middle school (around 2010-11) and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!
I was a teenager when this came out, the iPod touch. I bought one myself. The thing was at the time, touch screens were new, and not everyone wanted to give up their keyboards or num pads on their phones. It was a good alternative and gave you a lot of the features the iPhone did. I personally had a keyboard phone at the time, and was happy with it, so for I think like $150-$200 you picked one of these up, you had some of the newest tech on the side, and a base for a sound system in your car.
i will always love the ipod touch bc it was the only tech i had in highschool for a time without a phone
I’ll never forget how awesome the iPod touch was. A bunch of my friends in 6th grade had one and I begged my parents to get one. Eventually my dad agreed to get one as long as I brought home straight A’s. I did and thankfully due to my mom correcting my dad in getting the right one. The golden days of Fruit Ninja, the gun app and the old school YouTube app with the tv icon
Still have my first generation! Felt cool on the middle school bus.
I got my first iPod from my church’s youthgroup. It was a 1st gen, and I was like 15 years old… we still had dial up internet at my house, lol. It completely change the course of my life, having all of man’s knowledge at my fingertips.
I stil have my 1g in use sometimes, after about 15 years the battery still works for a whole week if i fully charge it.
I had an iPod Touch back in high school, they were amazing in the era right before the smart phone took off. It wasnt doomed from the start, infact it helped bring the touch screen to a wider audience since it was a good bit cheaper then the iPhone
ipod touch is probably apples most iconic item after the original ipod
I considered getting the last iPod Touch as a small music device for exercising... but it made no financial sense at all. A refurbished previous gen iPhone with new battery and better specs could be had for much cheaper. There was no advantage of the iPod except that it was new and slightly smaller.
