I'm learning more from your videos than I ever learnt about AK maintenance during my national service. Big thanks, Man. Highly appreciated.
love the "shameless plug", and the great information.
Canted front sights aren't nearly as annoying as not getting notifications for Robski's new videos. Now I have to go back and hit the stinkin' bell AGAIN.
Of course you have to use a hammer AK is crafted by elves, they live in the valley of Kazanlak in the ancient land of Bulgaria and they like using hammers and special files they got from the USSR dwarfs π. Love this channel man π If you want learn the way of this elven weapon Robski is the guy!
Drilling the front sightbase and fixing is always the best method.
My WASR 10/63 that I bought back in 2010 came with perfect sights in spite of the internet telling us that WASRβs were junk and always came with canted front sights. The internet is the one that is canted most of the time. Dang thing is more accurate than I am too.
Thank you for allowing us to to be part of your passion and knowledge.Robskiπππ
Just bought mine from you after watching this video. I had 2 gunsmiths who I paid to fix the canted fight and neither one could do it. So this is the set solution.
Every gunsmith I've ever asked says the front sight post is what you adjust for zero... but I couldn't zero with a canted M76 muzzle brake! I found my rear sight leaf was wobbly so I bought a new one from Zastava (all AK rear sights are the same! Even for different calibers!) I told my builder to weld the pin holes on the muzzle and re-drill after I put correct witness marks on the barrel. It's good enough now but I think my M76 came from the factory with lopsided front trunnion and gas block. The whole gas system points to the left! I wish they had better jigs to make the rifles straight back then. Definitely going to pick this one up because it will help, 100% !!!
Yet another awesome video for an AK lover like myself. Thank you Mr Rob Ski your the definition of AK cool π
Is it bad that I was hoping this would involve a hammer? πππ
Thanks for this. About 20 years ago (when the AWB expired!) I bought a very nice '74 put together from Bulgarian parts, . I've always been very pleased with it -- except that the front sight was a bit canted; the post had to be taken a good 1/3" sideways to properly sight in. Now I can fix it.
Great as always...Thanks Robski...
A screwdriver and a hammer: The complete AK-47 armorers kit
There can be another problem with iron sight alignment. I just corrected the cant on an AK47 front sight and it still could not be adjusted enough to hit the target. I found that the rear sight block was also canted. Like the front sight, the rear sight block is pinned to the barrel. The pin has to be removed and the block tapped into alignment. Then the pin hole has to be enlarged and pinned with a bigger pin. Of course, tapping either sight means you may have to use some manner of violence to get them to move. Almost everything done when working on AKs requires crude methods and force. Quite different than most other gunsmith work. In some ways, a nice change of pace!
As for drilling larger holes for the front post you are better off to use an end mill to bore the hole properly. A drill bit has an angled tip that will cause it to slide off of the barrel and drill crooked hole. An end mill is flat and will mill off the barrel cleanly without being forced off center by an angled tip.
God bless you for this!! I have an unfired Yugo that has a canted front sight. I didn't want to take off the gas block and re-drill it. This is a great option....now I can get it ready for the first day at the range!
Very nice info - thanks big buddy ! Never even knew that rear sight type existed ! Excellent β
The pins on the front post are tapered. Remove them & insert from the other side often fixes the canted front sight. Very old school method. If that doesn't work... well I'd prefer a gunsmith to do the realigning & drilling new holes
