For a non-vim user, this isn't at all what I look for in a text editor or note taking app

@YazhShah

Uses vim to edit docx files. Chad moves.

Great video! One suggestion I have for writing prose is to preemptively add words to your spellfile. This is great for writing something like a thesis, where you can grab a list of special words (bacteria, chemical compounds, roman building styles, whatever) and add them to your file.

@chriskerwell-gresla4403

Awesome breakdown for a brilliant tool — thank you!

@zereko8638

Just use the Vim for Google Docs chrome extension, then you have the best of both worlds

@DreamerAirazel

Using other text editors for the sake of privacy is definitely enticing, and I've been looking into making the switch from Google Drive for years now. However, I have not yet found anything that satisfies one single aspect that Google Drive does incredibly well: easy simultaneous editing. When I use Google Drive, it's incredibly simple to share my documents with others and even work together with others in order to take notes, write together, and quickly give information in a way that's tangibly modular. Cooperative writing is easily the biggest reason why I use Google Drive, and I don't know of any other word processing program or website that matches its ease of sharing and editing. If you know of any, please let me know so I may try it out and potentially get rid of Google Drive for good.

@Adiusza

Awesome, this is a game changer for me, i write a lot in vim and only in vim so this is perfect solution :D Thank you

This is one of the greatest thumbmails of all time!

So while this is all fine and good, Google Docs has a lot of functionality as well. You can use regular expressions with the find and replace feature which mimic what vim macros do with less effort. And it's connected to the internet which means you can trivially edit documents on other devices.

Google is a big tech company and all, but this is legitimately quite a useful tool and I don't see what vim offers over google docs that people should use it for text editing rather than google docs.

@mrping9493

This is very cool, thanks

@folksurvival

Also Pandoc to convert the format.

@Zephyrus0

I'm considering switching to Emacs because of Org mode and other stuff.

Both vim and emacs are kind of basic compared to Obsidian and Logseq when it comes to number of plugins for PKM
And while it's true that they have plugins and scripts for many functionalities outside of PKM and you can write your own scripts ...well I don't want that and that's when Obsidian/Logseq are way superior.
