This isn't going to slow the progression of the disease.  These are good for alzheimers like dropping a piano down a flight of stairs is good music. 

Too much nmda inhibitors can damage the brain. The big thing you can do in terms of drug therapy is to avoid sleep aids and all forms of gaba enhancing,  and anticholinergics. 

This is a good summary of side effects except they left out getting brain damage from too much memantine.  Nursing home patients probably would not get adequate monitoring of therapy of these drugs, even if they did work.
