Me trying to ignore my Team Leader at work so I can go to my break.
that ghost cheated! he assumed the kid could see him after killing the mom, but for all the ghost knows, the kid just saw his mom float and get her neck sanpped by unknown forces. of course the kids gonna cry! im reporting that ghost to the union
Ghost: "Do you see me?" Child: very visibly trying to look into any other direction Ghost: "Huh, guess they can't see me"
I find it so tragic how during the whole game the kid is seen as bold and smart by not looking at it and acting like nothing’s there, but as soon as he sees his mom dying, you’re reminded that it is, in fact, a little kid who will absolutely lose his cool and cry after witnessing this. He also probably thought it was all just a nightmare when he opened her the door.
"If you don't acknowledge it, it can't affect you." is a great trope of horror stories and such. What's more is also whether you "believe" it or not. Like in the movie of Skeleton Key, the only way the hex/curses could actually work is if the person believed they work, so the antagonist spends extra time building up superstitions and showing they affect them or actually do work like they say they do so the protagonist believed that a curse they cast would work on them.
For a split second, when it seemed like the mom was also looking down, I started thinking it was a metaphor for having a violent parent[/husband] that you need to avoid pissing off. Turns out everyone in this universe just has horrible posture.
The scariest part about this game is that family's posture.
The fact the Mom had her head down makes me think she also had a monster following her and she just so happens to have seen her sons monster behind him
6:28 never thought my game would scare you so badly! It's amazing that you played it btw. Thank you so much!
There was a very simple and short game where the whole plot was to shower, and to wash your hair. While doing this, you had to close your eyes for a while, and you could hear stuff and become more and more tense. If you opened your eyes you would die. If you ignored him and continued to wash, you won the game.
The monsters response at the end makes no sense, like of course the kids going to start balling if his mother dies right in front of him, regardless of whether the monster is visible or not.
As I was walking down the stair, I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.
Honestly I thought it was a monster trying to practice stealth and being REALLY bad at it.
5:50 the monster watches a kid throw pizzas at the all repeatedly.
Your point about absolutes resonates with me. As a child I had a reocurring nightmare. I'd be walking down the street in a neighborhood; on a too-bright summer's day. The grass was far too light in color, and on either side of the road were similar looking houses with white picket fences. I'm not certain where my destination was, but I'd pass by a man watering his lawn with a hose and I'd say hello. He'd then turn to me, with a horrified but serious expression; and then the sun would grow to engulf the earth. This would happen night after night, each time I'd try not to talk to the man, but every time I'd pass him, I'd have to say hello. The result was the same every time.
The spirit you mentioned at the end that follows you until you trip is a Japanese yōkai called okuri inu. Like you said, if you do trip you need to quickly come up with an excuse, perhaps claiming you’re tired and taking a break. This spirit is dangerous for obvious reasons, but also beneficial in some ways, as other spirits fear it as well, and will avoid it completely, so you know you’re safe for your journey as long as you maintain your balance. When you get home after being followed you’re meant to thank the spirit for guiding you safely and then leave an offering by the door and it’ll leave you alone. Fun fact for those who are into Pokémon: Lycanroc takes inspiration from this yōkai with its multiple forms. One form can keep you safe, while another form can turn in an instant.
The anime he mentions is mieruko-chan btw which I surprisingly finished yesterday
Manly turns around at 1:20, saying "I'm not noticing you" And he was being truthful. He was so focused on the one behind on the same side of the street he didn't notice the one on the other side of the street. I learned how to do this when I was afraid of the dark as a kid. I used to always imagine something dark and evil running at me faster than should be physically possible. And I knew there was nothing there, but the fear in imagining that there could be made me afraid. So I made myself not care. I'd turn off the light, and instead of running I'd walk, and I wouldn't check to see if anything is there. Learned how to just shut things out of my mind.
4:48 “hes right behind me isnt he…” type of moment
