A lot of kids that grew up on Nintendo or Sega got older and wanted games like GTA. PS2 having the built-in DVD player made it a nice value-proposition for families. Many i know had consoles in a bedroom or den, the PS2 with a dvd player moved a lot of them to the living room.
The game cube was great it just wasn't the PS2 in comparison.
I still have my Nintendo GameCube. I had to replace the DVD drive for a GC Loader because the drive stopped working. One thing I will say about the GameCube is that it still has the best Nintendo exclusives.
Gamecube actually sold over 30M units... Nintendo stopped counting in 2004 according to my Bloomberg investment system at work. Nintendo produced 40M units and only 35M units were released..Back in that era a game console only had to sell 15M units to be successful Nintendo was making $78 for every Gamecube console sold.
Being a huge Nintendo fan, I had a GameCube during the early 2000s and even though I loved it a lot, it was very clear that the PS2 was a better deal because of how many more titles it had, also because of the function to play DVD movies. I don't think any people that wasn't a Nintendo fan would prefer the GameCube over the PS2. That said, I believe me and every Nintendo fan loved the GameCube more than anything during the era.
I bought that since the day of it's release and loved it
The GameCube was my first console in my life. My favorite game by far was Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2
Metroid prime and the RE remakes then re4 the zelda games … nfs underground .. i absolutely loved the gamecube.. and still have 1
i just loved the cube when it came out. to this day i still have a platinum console that i've never taken out of the box.
My cousin had the system with super mario sunshine and i wanted to get it too but my dad didnt understand the whole system exclusive system so he bought me an xbox for my birthday. Apparently the salesman at Circuit City said it was the best system and could play mario games on it. The guy may have been talking about homebrew but my dad didnt understand much about technology when it came to consoles but i still loved the system either way.
Honestly for me it was the only place to play every mainline RE game up to 4. The other games were fun but marathoning re0/1/2/3/cvx/4 was peak
I enjoyed the GameCube, I bought my GameCube in 2005 just as the price was being discounted and played it almost as much as my PS2 at the time.
There's a new no-solder drive emulator out called the Flippy Drive. Combined with a GameCube it makes your system complete. Really cool retro mod scene these days.
Also it had Phantasy Star Online which originally came out on dream cast but was one of the very first MMOs and is still runninh(tho not on official servers) today.
The GameCube really needs a revival such as a mini console or at the least some sort of retro collection for the switch
the thing is the game cube was blown away by the xbox and ps2
Just so happened that I was threading a new GameCube shell when your video hit (iconic indigo of course). I just finished recapping it yesterday. I was going to install a Pico and Picoboot today but the latest requires a diode I had to order
12:56 the real question is, where did you kearn to fly?
The Nintendo Gamecube: Hey, at least I wasn't the Wii U!
