Thanks to John and the team at CSIRO for giving Marcus so much of their time so he can share it with us. Thanks for making the trip and putting the effort in Marcus, I really appreciate it
All too often Americans think that the Apollo missions were all done by the USA alone. This is great stuff to remind people that other people, in other countries, are an important part of all our space programs. I'd been to Perth, for a few months, long ago. A great place. Thank you.
My career is heavily imbedded in the radio frequency world and I'm lowkey SUPER jealous you got to walk/essentially ride the parks radio telescope!!! That is so awesome!
This was SOOOO COOL!!!! Thank you for this SURPRISE video and some insight into the tech that is REQUIRED for ANY Moon Mission to be carried out SUCCESSFULLY! This really was a great video! THANK YOU MARCUS and TEAM!!!! :)
The Murriyang radio telescope’s role in deep space communication is fascinating, precision at its finest. The evolution of mission support since Apollo is truly something to appreciate.
Great bonus video, Marcus, it's awesome that you were able to travel from Tasmania to witness this first-hand. It would be amazing for Rocketlab to sponsor you for a trip to witness a launch from their New Zealand facility, it's just down the road for you! 🙏😃
I love the big Dish at Parkes. I spent a fascinating day there a couple of years ago. It is an amazing facility, and watching it at work is incredible. I especially loved that they have an apple tree grown from a cutting of the famous one from Newton's garden in England. And I of course love the movie The Dish.
Thank you for the bonus episode, Mr House. I haven't called you Mr House because of our relative ages; you appear to be about half my age. It's due to my respect and appreciation for what you do every damned week. You are one of very few providing us with reliable information about what is going on in space and on the ground. I'm certain that I am only one of many who rely on you and your (few) peers. You are appreciated.
The upside-down Earth in the thumbnail is such a nice touch
fascinating reminder that Marcus will go to the ends of the world to keep the space community inform and on the leading edge
It was nice seeing your tour of the Park telescope and facility. The movie ‘The Dish’ is a favorite and it was like seeing an old friend again.
With that kind of access and the additional info & B-Roll I'm sure you were able to capture, it would be great to see a deep-dive episode dedicated to the Parks RT as a stand alone vid! I feel like you barely scratched the surface.
Wow! When you walked right on the dish!!
Yes! I love seeing folks FINALLY discussing how global comms work. I worked at the Goldstone DSN which worked with our friends at Parks, Canberra DSN and Madrid DSN.
All of our lunar missions and beyond are really a global effort. It was very cool to see that giant dish where old technology is plugged into very new technology like AI and making it all work. Outstanding. Nice job again Marcus.
Absolutely fantastic! Great to see this level of personal journalism that has the same space focus as your "normal" reports. Thank you, Sir.
I talked to NASA's deepspace tracking station (in Canberra) every day in the '70s for Galileo and Magellan. I was a mission controller. The biggest dish was 70 meters across. I briefly got to see its sister in Goldstone Calif on a field trip. Another station in Madrid makes the 3rd and globe-spanning network. That allowed us to keep in contact at any time. I also worked on the mission control team for 3 of the 4 encounters of Voyager. You just can't explain how big they are. Parks is nearly this size.
Really loved this extra coverage and great chance for you to do some on-site story telling! Thank you Marcus, hope you get to go back and do more of these types of videos on occasion.
As a Perth resident, I thankyou for your expansion of your endeavors to expand your channel.
