Wonderful! My grandfather began working for Sikorsky in 1935, the heyday of flying boat aviation. A native of Stratford, CT I recognize some of the landmarks surrounding the Sikorsky Aircraft facility. I built a 1/8 super scale Sikorsky S-38 with the Pan Am logo. Thanks for the video.

Taking a clipper across the ocean in the 1930's wasn't just a trip, it was an adventure

Great compilation!

Last February the golden age of the flying boat, here on Sproat Lake Canada ended with the final departure of the colossal Martin JRM (Philippine) Mars on her last voyage to the Pima Air Museum in Tucson Arizona. Last August, in 2024 The other Hawaii Mars left for the BC Air Museum near Victoria Canada, I lived very close to the 2 Mars flying boats while in service as fire fighting water bombers since the 1960's until early 2010's. I miss them so much.

@MDSBock

Very well done video or documentary, I really enjoyed it. It must have cost a small fortune for PanAma to set-up all the ports from Hawaii to Japan but I believe the US government gave huge subsidies to PanAma...

For those aviation flying boat enthusiast there are two Sikorsky flying boats in the New England Air Museum. i.e. the S-39 and VS-44. The VS-44 was the largest and last of the Sikorsky flying boats. The S-39 is a single engine aircraft. The Sikorsky S-43 is in the National Air and Space Museum, Udzar Hazy Center. I believe this S-43 was on the ground in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. There is a S-43 in the Fantasy of Flight Museum, FL. At one time this S-43 was owned by Howard Hugh's. Other Sikorsky flying boats i.e. the Sikorsky S-41 and S-42 are lost and gone forever. I believe there is a Sikorsky S-38 in the Fantasy of Flight Museum, FL.

Great read if you are interested in the story of Pan AM is the book, "An American Saga Juan Trippe and His Pan Am Empire" by Robert Daily.

@philipmcdonagh1094

No mention of Cobh in Cork Ireland. Yep the flying boats landed there.

@RedneckSpaceman

One thing about these Ships, you don't have to worry about running out of runway!!

@tomkent4656

What was their flying altitude?

A 3 minute + ad for overpriced American toilet cleaner? Unskippable? YouTube is going to the dogs.
