@wildechild5

I wish I was still a teenager when this song came out and I just thought it was a cool song. That was long before I knew everything about this song. It always guts me to hear it and to think about what Siouxsie Sioux went through as a child. For those of you that don't know (if you don't want to know stop reading now) this song is about the sexual assault of Siouxsie Sioux at the age of nine, she and a friend were sexually assaulted by a stranger. The assault was ignored by both her parents and the police,Β and was not spoken of in the family. The incident and its later treatment would lead Siouxsie to distrust adults. Years later, she stated:

"I grew up having no faith in adults as responsible people. And being the youngest in the family I was isolated – I had no one to confide in. So I invented my own world, my own reality. It was my own way of defending myself – protecting myself from the outside world. The only way I could deal with how to survive was to get some strong armour."

β€œIf you study modern groups...Β  none of them are as good as Siouxsie and the Banshees at full pelt."Β  -Morrissey (of all people.)

@lilithsalazar6556

Siouxsie's hair is everything

@41sith

The Queen of Goth and Dark Wave.

@MebThemes

Siouxsie is easily among the greatest frontwomen of all time.

@solinvictus39

Her voice was in top form on this album, and in my personal opinion this was the peak of her career. I never get tired of hearing this album- seriously. I've been listening to Tinderbox since 1987.

@YukikoHashi

In my opinion, this song doesn't get enough love. I'm listening to it over and over again since months.

@ArielAndChristian

The amount of key changes in this 4-minute song is ridiculous. I love it. Only Siouxsie and the Banshees!

@MartinHannett_

That guitar riff and engineering when the main melody kicks in. Sheer 80s gothic sound that just doesn't exist now.

@ACCH-cm9ou

What i love about the 80s is, that you had so many artists from completely different genres, coming to the pop charts world with their definition of pop music...and it was an extremely vivid and exciting time to live

@StephaneSmarties

The instrumentation and the vocals in this song are literally amazing. The way Siouxsie plays with her voice and responds to herself in different tonalities is beautiful. The drumming and the guitars are fantastic. I don't know any equivalent to this brilliant and original style even among other great bands. However the story behind this beautiful song is dramatic and heartbreaking when you know it relates to Siouxsie own childhood.

@eddiewillers1

Jeez - that key change at 2:00 just sends shivers down my spine. She sings with such an appropriate theatricality that I just have to listen again.

@marymiller3751

Bassline of Steven Severin as well as his style and moves are sick!

@111usul

there should be a radio station with this song on repeat

@ngairehodge8566

Siouxsie and Grace Jones are my female icons. I love their talent and individuality.

@soaribb32

When that deep background vocal came in, it scared me. Sounded like a ghost calling for me

@marko8854

Siouxie and the banshees totaly own this

@tm.2666

Such a dark and serious subject (CSA) but she puts it into a song so perfectly, mystical with a dark undertone.

@MariaLucia-vl9oy
