There has been a transfer of value...my dogs get so excited when I pick up the tripod, lol. Another benefit of filming your training is having so many precious memories of your dogs once they pass.
I needed this so badly! My tripod is in the box. I realize that negative nobody was keeping me from taking that next step. I’m on day 2 of Recallers & my dog Rockstar is LOVING ANY time we spend in training! I got her as a 4 yr old about 6 weeks ago. She came as an open book not even knowing her name. I came as an open book having only heard of clicker training & stumbled onto you. I’m loving your podcasts on YouTube! And Rockstar & I are loving your training methods! We have so much to learn it’s kind of overwhelming! That’s why I joined Recallers so I would have a place to start and a plan to follow!
I've started having all of my clients record their "homework" WOW the changes that have been made!!! Everyone loves it.
Thank you, you have e taught me so much! My dog is lucky is humans have you to help is be honest! 🎉
Thank you, Susan!!
Thank you for consistently inspire me! I’m getting back on the video train today.
Thank you for this , I had been videoing and then got harsh with myself and lost my confidence in my ability and then didn’t want to video the ‘rubbish’ training . But listened to this and then videoed today …. I’m back in a happier place . Thank you
Thank you so much Susan! I’ve been really struggling with my confidence while training my now 4 month old puppy. I keep comparing myself to you and other dog trainers and it’s hard when things aren’t going well and I feel like I’m failing him. Being reminded that you started at the bottom and got where you are over years helps a lot and knowing you’re proud of all of us trying helps even more! ❤
Great video! Train your thoughts to be successful
Susan is so right, I’ve seen some of Susan’s early videos and she has come a long way. We all have, I have early training videos that really suck but the good thing is it shows that we learn and get better I can’t stress enough what a difference videoing and watching your training makes. You become a fly on your own training wall.
❤ This video is really helpful.
Thank you so much, we love you too ❤
Such important advice. These messages help every single time they make appearances in Susan's content (although yes, bit by bit I'm learning how to give them to myself, too ♥).
The first few times I videoed was at the request of my rescue coach for the foster dog I had at the time. Thankfully I had someone that could help me with a behaviour that we knew we could improve. The coach asked for videos of my practice and training sessions. I have to say, my blood pressure went up for the first few. Then I realized, the videos were not about me. They were a tool to communicate and help this dog enjoy his life a little more with the right steps to build confidence and a behaviour. Once I focused on that I was good and stopped worrying that I’m on video. I will admit I don’t do all my Recaller sessions with video…but Susan I’ll do better. Because it will help. Thanks for all u and your team do everyday. 🇨🇦
You're so right. Now if only I can finally make space on my phone and tablet. I'm at max for both. It's a good kick in the pants to get that done. Also, I need to work on my posture. 😂
Self-love is eluding me. Finally video'd a training session. It's not nearly as bad as I'd feared. Unfortunately, my broken fingers due to his uncontrollable lunging at another dog last week are probably due to trying to "train" emotion. I'm a veterinarian, and again working with trainers at a veterinary behavior clinic. I still feel like I've failed him somehow. My 5th dog, and 3 were essentially "bomb-proof" around other dogs and people, the other slightly "iffy" one was a late in life rescue (Chow/Ridgeback cross), who I could still walk safely anywhere, simply bad for restraint for nail trims, blood draws, etc. Video should help our training, we've been video'd in agility arena and in Nosework class, don't think it will be any magic bullet for his impulsivity. He seems to have the basics of IYC, but we are stuck in kindergarten on Crate Games.
I got over being self conscious about videos when I first started recallers. The focus is the dog not me. But I tend to do quickies throughout the day which are spontaneous events rather than planned. Therefore setting up a video doesn’t happen. First thing in the morning I take our dogs out for potty breaks individually and sometimes use that time to do short training sessions with them. Working on recalls, rz, leash work, collar grabs, sits and downs. But no video. I’ve been trying to work on triggers with our 4 yr old so we can go for walks without him reacting to dogs and people ( he gets over threshold). If I plan in advance I could video but again, I take advantage of moments here and there to do threshold work. My biggest impediment at this time is physical. I have a hip injury and some days I’m more uncomfortable than others which impacts everything. I am unable to walk much beyond our driveway. So that’s a challenge. Recently I planned a session of crate games and did video it. It is very helpful. Then on the next session I neglected to turn on the record function on my phone!🤪 I am determined to plan training sessions weekly. I have tripods that I could probably set up in advance to record. The key is doing it. I’m open to suggestions.
I know in the beginning of my training was my worse fear. Well with Susan’s encouragement I have over come my fear. My mechanics have improved since reviewing my skills.
Ok, fine. For Benji, I will deal with having to see myself on camera. Btw, thank you so much for this video. I really, really, really hate seeing myself on camera. But I needed the push to reframe it as what's best for him. Because I'd rob a bank if he asked me to. 😂 (Lucky for me, as a 14week old mini aussie, Benji has no idea what a bank is.)
