It is a great time to be a photographer if we are concerned that 15 frames per second is not good enough! Thanks for the great review!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The white bird is a snowy egret and the small blue bird next to it is a tricolored heron.
Ive been checking my feed daily for videos on this lens since it was announced. Im so glad you went out of your way to show so many different scenarios and examples. Literally going back to sony just for this lens its a game changer!
No one makes boring lens reviews as interesting and entertaining as you do! Also, kudos for crediting Tony Northrop! Youโre the MAN! Thanks for taking me along!
When you consider what you get for that money. Best lens of this decade.
Thanks for the lens cap plug, Jared. Really appreciate it.
I own the original Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 for f-mount from 2005 and its pretty dang sharp even today on a Z7 II or D850. Sigma doing good things in the photography world and I love it!
BEEN WAITNG ON THIS FOR WEEKS
Awesome review! I've been waiting weeks with high anticipation for this! Looks like I need to start saving for another lens
Seriously, people and their teleconverters. They'd buy a 1200mm lens f11, put a 2x teleconverter on it, on a micro 4/3's, and zoom into 300% and then complain that their images "don't look that great". Yeah, I wonder why?
Its BIG, its FAST (4.0) and its going to make you stand out from everybody else. Jared gonna love it.
White bird @ 23:31 looks like a snowy egret, and other one looks like a tricolored heron. Which I was able to tell because you got a very nice size comparison to a snowy egret in one frame ๐
Yes! Finally the review is there! Thanks for taking more time and go thorough as your initial comments at IG made me think it would not be good. The extended time used in learning to use it paid off! The comments show the various potential users for such a lens. As a wildlife photographer, light often is your enemy as most wildlife shows itself either at dusk or dawn with very limited light available. That is where the F4 will shine compared to my 200-600. Main worry for birders will be the fact that one cannot zoom and focus at the same time. For diving ospreys and eagles this may prove an issue as you often start zoomed in and during a dive you may have to zoom out as it comes closer. Having to refocus during a dive may prove tough as the high speed may make it tough to keep the subject in scope. Still undecided to go for this one of for the Sony 400-800 (yeah, I know, not comparable but budget does not allow everything.)
Another great product review and you always seem to cover the points I am most interested in and thank you very much for the time and effort you put into your reviews.
12:56 - Total dealbreaker for me right there as a sports shooter. A perfect example of when you'd want to zoom w/ AF is shown at 17:12. The player is running toward you with a tight frame (that quickly becomes too tight) & every fraction of a second matters. A big thank for mentioning this ๐ฏ I'll be sticking with native primes for the 300-600mm range unless Sigma corrects this via firmware update. 13:45, 14:34, 17:32 - Doesn't seem to produce as sharp of images as native mirrorless glass either. I do realize the quality we see on YT may be a factor, but I've seen much sharper images on YT from Nikon Z "S", Canon RF "L", and Sony E "GM" glass. The birds at 23:09 and 24:08 look tack sharp though. Really thankful for this in-depth review ๐ฅ
Excellent review with all the different scenarios that this lens would fit into. I can't shake the feeling though that sigma will release a revamped 120 (or 105) to 300 2.8 and have a trinity of high speed glass all the way from 28 to 600. Also the shots of the heron and golfer. Damn they were sharp and well composed
These golf shots are incredible great job Jared!!!!
Thanks for making that note. It's nice to know about it's lack of par-focal-ness
