Taiwanese should remember "The United States has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests." -- Henry Kissinger

Such a brilliant message to Taiwanese from a highly respected professor on geopolitics. Thank you very much, Professor Kishore Mahbubani, for enlightening the Taiwanese.

@alloallo9896

Sometimes, people don't want to hear the truth because they don't want their illusions destroyed.

@allanhsu888

Prof. Kishore One of the most sophisticated politicians in the world

@PhilipTan-i1u

Agreed with prof Mahbubani 100%. In fact Taiwan's biggest trading partner is mainland China. Taiwan's currency is worthless outside Taiwan as i have experienced in my travels. I have tried to exchange Taiwanese money but 10:49 it turns out that No one in the world wants to exchange it. 99% of all countries in the world do not recognize Taiwan as a separate country. Taiwan without China is a dead end. The biggest victim if it pushes for independence is the Taiwanese youth as they are throwing away their future. China is surpassing the usa and soon has the biggest economy and highest technology Level in the world.

@pauline9085

Professor Kishore, you are so loved. Your good intention and patient are so appreciated. Your words are straight to the point. You always have this ability of being pleasant and at the same time convey a strong message. Gratitude to you!

@HTeo-og1lg

Pleeease Taiwan, don't take the "step of calamity". You have the responsibility not only to yourself, but also of the whole world.

@Cake...

Profound ominous talk which ordinary Taiwanese citizens should heed. Sadly, the government won’t

@hookkimhin7097

Professor Kishore is an extraordinary expert who knows deep into the affairs on geopolitics in the world. His advice is precious, timely and more than appropriate for Taiwan. I am one person who has the highest respect for his views on world affairs.

@kmich7660

Independence of Catalonia from Spain?
Independence of Scotland from UK?
Hawaiians are clamoring for independence as Hawaii was taken forcibly.
New Caledonia wants independence.
Cook island wants independence too.

@tanyongwahtony1269

GOD Bless you❤

@eliso5973

Should Okinawa be independent? Should Catalonia be independent? Should Hawaii be independent? Should Texas be independent? the list goes on.

@RajPaulSeattle

This is an extra ordinary man with a gentle heart and a big mind. Thank you.

@ZhongYuan-w9j

Grandma always says: listen carefully to a wise man and digest deeply what he insinuates! The brilliant insights shared in this speech just demonstrated that he is such a person the Grandma is talking about ❤🎉❤🎉

@Galaxy-ut1fm

He crushed that speech! So well delivered

@dchey01

Chinese and Taiwanese are one people. Just brothers with different opinions. Brothers should not fight, work out your differences between yourselves, don't be head strong, the peace and security of the whole world weighs on your shoulder. You can have different opinions/political systems and yet be family and work together towards a better future for each other and the world.

@yokechan2765

great analysis

@helenfeng7263

I always thought that Taiwan had the best of both worlds before the independence movement started winning. Great relationship with the west and lots of business from China. Unmatched social freedoms and a strong thriving economy. In early 2000s they were so culturally dominant in Mainland China, that Taiwanese music was taking up nearly every top spot in the music industry. Now it feels like Taiwan is so much more disconnected not just from China but from the rest of the world. The semi conductor industry is the only thing still important about the Island and that’s just such a narrow scope that makes it even more dependent on US and its idiot leaders. And that industry is about to lose to breakthroughs just a few months from being announced by its rivals in China. By the end of 2025. TSMC crippled by US sanctions to sell to its biggest customer, will be made irrelevant by breakthroughs which are already being announced in private academic circles that china is making in a chip manufacturing. Breakthroughs by rivals often times managed by Taiwanese who had better opportunities in Mainland China. Like the head of SMIC’s engineering team. Meanwhile, tourism, agriculture, processed food products, cultural industries. restaurant chains, has all but withered up, because of its increasing isolation from China. I used to really admire Taiwan, now Taipei feels like a third tier Chinese city, and one incredibly vulnerable company is around 40 percent of Taiwans exports. And the elected officials in Taiwan seem hell bent on ruining the economy while putting Taiwan further under the thumb of American whims with no real plans on updating infrastructure to make Taiwan competitive again outside of semi conductor. Is that the sign of imperialism, having you so dependent on a narrow market that control is possible by simply closing the taps. Meanwhile TSMC’s biggest rivals are actually American companies😂. I don’t need Taiwan to be absorbed into China, most young Chinese under 45 don’t care much about taking Taiwan, but they do care about the independence movement because it’s a bygone conclusion that it would make Taiwan like the Puerto Rico of the US, even it is “independent” by definition there is absolutely no way it can be independent by nature and simple geography.
