Let's be clear, Republican policy is about denying people the option to not be parents. That's not encouraging procreation, its forcing it. Republicans wouldn't draw nearly so much vitriol on this issue if they stuck to policy aimed at making raising a child easier. Better standards for maternity leave, maternal insurance coverage, tax breaks for child care, that sort of thing. Unfortunately you can count on Republicans to pick whatever approach to any given problem is least consistent with basic decency.
