Hey! While flexibility is an amazing thing we still need to remind ourselves about mobility. Sometimes they can seem like the same thing but flexibility is how far you can stretch and mobility is how much you can move! If you over stretch then you mobility decreases. Therefore getting normal splits is a perfectly healthy thing but when we get into over splits we start to see a problem. Over stretching can actually cause a problem within your joints in the tendons. See when you normally stretch you are stretching your muscles and muscles are like rubber bands, once you stretch them they will go back into a healthy place. However when you stretch tendons they will never go back into the proper place and over stretching does this to the body. Tendons help with body structure and the looser your tendons are (for example in the hips) you start to feel less supported and this is how a lot of people end up having to get a hip replacement in there elder years. I am a dancer and in my career focus mobility and flexibility come hand in hand but it is not just dance. In order to live a happy and healthy life you must have an equal balance in both. This comment is not a strike to the creator of this short as I really do love their content, I am just warning the side effects of over stretching Like so this will become the top comment! π
