Charles! The Humble Mechanic, the VW expert!
Alex, you have the right crew working on it, I’ve known Lee since he was working in his mom’s garage and joe since high school. Definitely two of the best vw/audi techs around. Very respectful in that community.
On Wednesday what a treat!
It's 100% the sensor. At 14:30 or so you swap the cam sensors because the intake cam sensor value wasn't correct. Now when you unplug the exhaust cam sensor, which was originally the intake cam sensor, the car runs.
Max is hammering out these edits, so great to see these posted so shortly after they are filmed!
It fires up with the cam sensor unplugged because it goes to base timing (fail safe mode) my best bet is the the tone ring on the crankshaft is damaged because the upper pan is damaged.
Thought it was Saturday for a second there 😅
Thanks for giving your nephew such experience, now he is aware sometimes things don't work they way we have planned..and that's a life lesson whenever he comes across challenges...Nice video indeed
28:16 those GMC Typhoon wheels ❤❤
I am a lifetime VW enthusiast and I have to say I love the Golf R series so far. Your content is always entertaining, but seeing a brand I love and am familiar with is a treat. Repairing the forklift damage delayed what probably would've been more time you could have spent diagnosing this mysterious ailment but I'm glad it ended with some kind of diagnosis and not left as a dangling mystery. I eagerly await the next installment. I myself own a 2019 Golf Alltrack with a manual transmission, though my first VW was an old Scirocco, followed by a MK3 GTI 2.0 (no turbo), a MKIV GTI 1.8T, a MKV R32, a MKV Jetta Sportwagen 2.0T SEL, and now the Alltrack. Seeing the joy in discovering the badge trunk opener was awesome. I've always loved the little details they put into these cars that make them a joy to own. The Golf R has always tempted me, but I miss my R32 the most of all my old cars.
i think we all would love more than 1 video a week alex. so thanks for the additional content we know how much work it takes .
$150, that's why I bought my own changer and balancer. A shop that I used to work for charged me $100 to balance 4 tires. Now I do my own.
As a GTI owner I love your diving into this project.
this is so cool seeing my long time tech and a guy i went to high school with helping alex out and giving a short little lesson on the woes of the 2.0t
I love when you a Rich get together. And your new helper seems promising. And he seems to really like it.
Replace both of the camshaft control “solenoids”/“magnets” as VW Audi calls them. See if that improves anything. Usually you can watch the command vs the actual cam position and see what isn’t jiving.
Uncle Rich is having a blast watching Alex struggle.😁
The spark is orange and erratic like a bad ground or weak coils. A weak coil will not show bad because it works , Keep up the Great Videos!
Hey I think this video is great because it shows us that your channel is real. None of us is all knowing. As soon as one thinks that they know it all, you fall on your face with a problem. It keeps us all humble. Loved it Alex...
