Started on dirt First street bike at age 47...Honda Rebel 500 Now at 51 a beautiful 2023 Triumph Trident 660 Love your content Yammie!
In the part where you talk about the emotional response, you are absolutely right, if when you see your motorcycle and you don't feel the like going even for a short ride, then you chose wrong, I have had mine for almost 4 years, and no matter how things are, whenever I see it I feel like going out for at least a ride on it apart from something you don't mention is that when you choose your motorcycle, you adapt to it as much as it adapts to you, because between the different things that you change along the way and with the accessories, parts and repairs, your motorcycle ends up being almost an extension of yourself or atleast i feel that way
Started on a new leftover 2018 Ninja 400. After 2 years and 18,000 miles I was ready to upgrade. Went to a Kawasaki demo day and nervously rode a ZX-6R. The power was amazing, addicting and a little scary but I knew that was my next bike. I bought the 2021 in pearl blizzard white. Still own it and put over 15,000 miles on it. A few drops but the frame sliders saved my ass. Only a few scratches on the throttle. No crashes, knock on wood.
I started on a 600 and upgraded to a 750 after just half a year — but (and this is a huge difference) I was 30 years old when I got my motorcycle license. Also, getting a license in Europe is significantly more difficult than in many other parts of the world. I’ve never felt overwhelmed by the bike’s power.
I started on a brand new 2024 Duke 390, still riding it a year+ later only just beginning to crave more power. But boy has it been a GREAT bike to learn on and still surprises me from time to time.
My first road bike was a 1972 Yamaha xs 650. In 1975. After three dirt bikes. I really think riding in dirt established skills needed to operate a motorcycle safety. I been on two wheels for 59 years its been fun.😊
when i got my 750 nighthawk i was scared at first but after a few rides i wasnt nervous and now the sounds it makes easing into 50% throttle and then engine braking leaves a smile and makes me giggle every time like when i was a kid and would hear the gtrs at car shows
i just got a 650 as my first sports bike, just hit 300 miles today. it seems to be the perfect middle ground to learn the sportsbike ride. my knees do hurt but every ride it seems i can go longer and longer. i was terrified of it then i forced my self to get one and just ride. been in love with it ever since!!!!
Here I am, on my third year riding my versys 650 straight up chillin
I just got my motorcycle license today and I got my grandfather’s 1990 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200
I started on a Kawasaki KLR650 and graduated to a BMW S1000XR for the last 5 years. Love it!
Hey yammie, I've been watching for over a year and i just bought my first bike- kawasaki z650rs. Im 6ft 6 so it looks like a grom underneath me, but my back feels good and it does highway speeds just fine. Thanks for the content and inspiration to move forward with wisdom. I love my bike :)
8:25 My first bike was a 1996 Honda cb250. Though it was great to learn the basics on, I very quickly realized that I could BARELY go freeway speeds, and got up to speed way slower than even some cars. That by itself can be dangerous, but on top of that, I also found that I didn't want to go ride with my friends, because they would all have to wait for me to get up to speed, or even, god forbid, go the speed limit on the freeway. Personally, I Recommend that when starting riding, you should probably start in the 300-650cc range. It gives a balance with how forgiving the bike is, while not sacrificing a LITTLE room to grow into it and improve. I had the cb250 for 1 riding season, and it was a great commuter and learning tool, but I am now very happy with the tried and true sv650.
Bought a 23 CLX 700 in April 24 because it was great deal. Only took 10 months to get past break in. BUT now I commute on it 40 miles 5 days a week. In Austin traffic. And I love it.
I got a rebel 500 for my first and I couldn’t be happier with it. Now I have 4 bikes
I stupidly financed the ninja 500 fresh off dealership floor last year and have been broke since lol , but I absolutely love the bike and ride it everywhere,
my riding experience recently: -listen to yammie get a husky 401 as beginner bike 1 year ago -learn from there with zero riding experience -get invited to join ducati ride 2025 with bunch of ducati friend riding at around 80~110mph while i follow with my 401 at the back -get thumbs up once reach the destination "your 400cc actually can keep up with us, not bad" -profit
I used to ride dirt bikes and decided to get the MT07. Absolutely love it.
Good vid. In my own case as a new rider at 46 (last year), I researched a first bike like crazy. After a lot of vids, reviews, word of mouth, I had it narrowed down to a Rebel 500. Went to the dealer, saw the controls, and thought, "Not for me.". Then I saw the Kawasaki Z400. Took it for a test ride and knew this was the one. After over 2300 miles on it, and several upgrades, I feel very comfortable with it. Eventually, I may go bigger (in the far future), though I'm perfectly happy with my current wheels.
