Great fun. That CZ is so old however, he did well making it so close. Putting Rob on a much later twin shock...that will be interesting!! Some of those early 80s Maico 490s I sometimes see are really quick!
That CZ was frightening. Cool to see a modern pro on that old bike.
Great video Max! I own six CZ’s and never get tired of hearing the sound of the air cooled motor and the whistling of the dry clutch.
awesome, i had a big smile the whole race...the CZ brought back memories of mine at Saddleback days in SoCal
I hardly remember guys riding CZ’s in the 1971-1973 time frame. Husqvarna, Maico, Bultaco yes. Great fun watching these two.
I got the opportunity to ride a CZ400 in 1989 the same day the man stood in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square. I was working the course at a hare scramble race as a sweep rider and a friend of a friend let me take it for a spin. My opinion was it was either flat or on the pipe and the brakes were scary compared to the speed of the bike. It was a blast to ride and I found respect for those who raced it.
Splendid track and lovely race. How can you imagine doing that? The CZ win in my heart
That 2 stroke sound and the speed shift was really fun to hear. My first bike was purchased new was a 1972 Bultaco 125 Pursang. The good old days in socal. Thanks for producing this video. You guys rock!
I started racing on a 1975 KX 400 twin shock! I extended the swing arm 2” and put taller Curnutt shocks on it. I am short legged and wish I had that bike now, lol. The motor was a tractor. The bike was great for power lines and tight woods!
Cz's are great. They basically were the go to bike for privateers in the early 70's, ushering in the sport of motocross in America as we know it today. Many championships won on these sturdy machines...
Loved that, so good. Ex-mx racer, last bike was an '83 CR480. Stopped racing/riding in about '86 and been mountain biking ever since. My modern day mountain bike components are burlier than the CZ's😀. It's wild to see how we progress. Loved the video👍
This is fantastic! I can not believe how well this old bike did! And Rob made the most of it! Really fascinating! Well done! A pleasure to watch this!
Brings back memories of kidney belts and numbing vibration. Thanks for riding the shocks off that old bike.
Thanks! Love the sound of a two stroke! Raced MX starting with a '76 RM 125A ending with a '81 Maico GM 500 in 1988. Good times😂
Massive respect to both riders. Not only for the level of fitness required to be as good as they are, but also for being such good sports to each other. Impressive footage throughout too!
I'd love to see Ron on a 1981 Maico 490 race Shaun on his 350. Another great video!!!
Love these kind or comparison’s, I’ve always heard it’s 80% rider and 20% bike give or take.
Great video, as a boy in the 70's I had a 1976 Yamaha 125 mx & this bike reminded me of all the good times I had on it.
This was WAY too much fun - THANKS! But I gotta say that 999Lazer made it doubly unfair to us vintage lovers by choosing a short travel twin shock bike. If they’d chosen something just a year or two later like a Suzuki RM370 I think Rob would’ve run away with it! Younger MXers may not be aware of the monumental progress in suspension technology that happened between 1974 and about 1980. Just amazing how well that C ZED performed!
