I love how earnestly Manly went into the dress up games and actually considered what goes well together
I kind of wish that more games or even unfiction stories would make use of the idea that people are intentionally making the games messed up for a given artistic reason. While the idea of haunted games are interesting and all, it's far scarier when you think as though the games were created for a specific reason and had the horror intentionally baked in. Lacey's and Shipwrecked 64 did really well with the idea though took this concept in different directions. Really interested to see the full version of this game as it tackles its dark narrative.
"This is too much attitude for shopping mall, only I do that" Blessed is whoever goes on a date with Manly
Man there really is just something casually horrifying about Grace constantly being confronted with the glaringly obvious proof of Rocio being abused and her only real response to it being casually dismissal of it or calling Rocio crazy and only doing what she does to scare kids. (Though it's certainly in line with Rocio saying the person grace loves most in the world is herself)
When you finish laceys petshop, if you go back in, and sit on the title screen, youll notice it gets grainier and grainier, leads to another secret
I can confirm this is the average experience of going on girls go games in the early 2010s
I always love seeing one of these "fake games" series being turned into a real, playable game. I'm not deeply familiar with this one, but I like what I'm seeing here.
I can't help but feel like Grace has had more hand in creating the disturbing parts than she wants to admit. I feel as if she could have made these as a way to mock Rocio's trauma. I think what supports this theory is the fact that scary parts are made mostly of collage and real life pictures, and we know that Grace is a programmer, not an artist. Also Petshop specifically has a much more complex scary part, one that would be more difficult to program than the cute one.
20:47 This scene is so disturbing when you consider Lacey's perspective. Those pigs are at a dining table, representing a family. Her family. Meaning that she saw them as nothing but vile pigs. They are eating flowers. Flowers represent love and purity. They were eating away at her innocence.
4:18 Oh my goshhhhhh thats a BASE!!!! people would draw featureless figures with cute anime eyes and let people draw over them to make their ocs n stuff!! what an amazing throwback omg
The background of the Lacey's Games website has the exact same shade of pink that Games 2 Girls used to be in the 2000s! Love the attention to detail :')
LACEYS GAMES ARE REAL NOW WHAT
8:34 In case you missed it, Lacey's stalker is on the far right, hidden in the shadows
Yknow all that grainy fuzzy distortion she has of her memory? This is exactly what I saw on my repeated nightmares as a child. Its so distorted like that and I could never ever describe it, and the creator of Lacey portrayed it to me. Im so thankful. Thank you, as someone who had a terrible childhood
20:17 This scene hits teally close to home. Often times, when you've gone through similar things in your life for so long, it becomes extremely difficult to adjust to better conditions. There is a strange comfort in the familiarity of a constant pain..
Interesting that in the "About us" section Lacey isnt the first character introduced, and that her description says she "had" alot of friends. Wonder if it was a falling out, considering the other 2 characters dont appear in the demo, or something else...
Ugh, the pet shop one kinda hit me hard. Years ago I worked at an animal shelter that doubled as a clinic. The place actually did quite a few declawing of cats per month, and every time I watched, I was still disgusted; even though it was professionally done and the vets tried everything possible to make it less traumatic and post-op bearable (pain management and stuff), it was still horrid to watch the cats try to deal with it the days after. I know some do fine, but some just never really walk the same afterwards... I also fostered a kitten, and a lady from the upper ranks was going to adopt her out to a friend, and I asked to just not declaw her, and she had the nerve to shrug and say "you can't stop what people want." Animal industry people can be really messed up, sigh.
it seems Manly put in lacey + uncle by accident, but if you play the game itself: when Grace tells you to replay Lacey's Pet Shop, doing so is how you get the codewords. You also get to encounter someone special ;)
THEY ACTUALLY MADE LACEYS GAMES A REAL GAME ?? WOAH !! Excited to see how the full game turns out ^^
