@Roger-d5o

I've been sober for 13 years. Personally I've found that stopping drinking reduces social anxiety rather than increasing it. That said, the general anxiety generated from being alive and facing an unmedicated reality every day creates a need for something to 'take the edge off'. Still, a lot more benefit to being sober than drinking.

@vincewarren1271

One thing that wasn't discussed is how drugs and alcohol change the reward system in the brain. When i was a drinker, i no longer disired natural rewards such as playing guitar, sports, old school video games which i loved, etc. Music didn't even get me hyped anymore for my workouts. I just looked forward to having my first drink of the day when i got home. Once i backed off for a while, all of my passions came back. I didn't quit. But I don't touch it twice in the same week anymore. It's one of my non negotiables and my motivations have stayed consistent and back to my passions. I don't think about alcohol as much anymore. The stuff hijacks your brain.

@AmericanMike815

I was a very 'seasoned' daily alcoholic (36 + drinks per day ) 128 days ago, I stopped for good. Best decision I could have ever made. Alcohol was holding me back from becoming the man I was meant to become.

@TheGodsEye82

Started drinking at 9, wasn't until my mid 30's after taking a 6 year break did I realize how destructive it was to me. Have a couple now every few months.
Everything in this video is 100% spot on! Thank you gentleman for putting this out!

i haven't had a drop in over 25 years..quit when i was 21..don't miss it at all..one day i went from being a binge drinker to having no thirst for drink...same thing happened for cannabis recently..woke up with no "hungar" for.weed anymore...grace of God both times...

@melinaray5798

Both of my parents were alcoholics. It killed my Mama at a fairly young age. I was headed down a bad path with drinking after a suicide in my family. I intentionally quit alcohol after changing my way of eating (carnivore/jketo). Just lost the taste for it. An unexpected blessing ✨

@bglamd01

I’ve never been a heavy drinker because I’ve seen firsthand how alcohol can negatively impact lives. Watching family and friends lose control—ruining good moments with arguments, reckless behavior, and even anger—taught me early on how destructive excessive drinking can be.

About a year and a half ago, I decided to cut alcohol out of my life completely, and I don’t miss it at all. Since making that change, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my overall well-being. I feel so much healthier, both physically and mentally, and I absolutely love waking up every day with a clear mind and a fresh perspective. The clarity and peace of mind I’ve gained have been truly transformative, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

@doctorstrange69

I clicked here because I thought you were drinking alcohol with Professor Nutt lol

@gstbadcat1

Alcohol contributes to the increase in the number of child intake for Child Protective Services. As a former foster parent, many in my care came about due to alcohol issues. We ended up adopting 2 children coming from alcohol related parenting. No alcohol syndrome diagnosis, instead “alcohol effect” which is less severe. Our pro bono adoption lawyer insisted we get state health insurance for the 2 as part of our adoption agreement. His experience counseled that we would need that insurance to cover expenses due to issues that would likely come to surface when they hit puberty. He was so right! We would have had to of taken out a second mortgage to cover expenses due to individual and family counseling sessions during those challenging years.

You sir are a legend. I remember when you had less than 25k subs. I hope you are at least aiding your finances with your work & efforts here.

Keep up the good work Dr John.

@babadeedee

I''ve never had a drop of alcohol because both of my grandfathers were alcoholics and one lived out most of my life on skid row in Chicago. We found him at a mission when I was in high school and my mom took me to see him so I could see what alcohol does to someone. He just started with a couple beers a night and it turned him into a man who up and left his wife (my grandma) and never came back. Unfortunately, one of my daughter's didn't believe how powerful it is and she became a binge drinker in college from the first day of her sophomore year. We had to bring her home during her junior year and she sobered up and eventually became a nurse and has never had a drink again.. My oldest daughter's husband drinks alcohol every night and he's a successful NYC attorney. He's playing with fire and it's such a bad example for my grandson.

@artsiecrafty4164

My family was riddled with alcohol. Father drank but functional, mother didn’t until her fifties, but then developed cancer and later on, Alzheimer’s. I have genetic autoimmune disease and I drank when young. Recently on I learned how alcohol affects the mast cells, making me sick for months after special occasions. I just said “never again” on Mother’s Day. I just ordered your alternative beverage. Thank you.

@tomkenyon3721

Having a few drinks in a social environment is what a lot of elderly people do to stave off isolation and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that and this is coming from someone like me whose parents owned a pub and I played bass guitar in a club band in the UK and across Europe for decades and imbibed on numerous occasions and I still go to my local on a daily basis for two pints of Guinness and happily go home feeling fine.

@tymcc572

Thank you, John and David absolute legends👍

@GB-sw1ut

Great show! Thank you, John. I so appreciate your and Professor Nutt's vast knowledge of the subject, and I applaud him for creating an alternative.

@carlnoe2

A nutritionist once explained to me that glucose is carried to the body via the blood. One of the functions that the liver performs is conversion of alcohol into glucose, and when the liver is overtaxed, the toxic alcohol goes directly into the blood stream. When I understood the nutritionist’s message, I stopped drinking.

@roymarsh3114

I have not drunk any alcohol, at all, for 30 years, I'm 73. My late wife was an alcoholic on whiskey. Her accent changed when she was drunk, and I hated that. I didn't want to be in the same room as her when she was drunk. I refused to speak to 'alcohol'. I have never missed alcohol. I don't need alcohol to enjoy myself. I pick litter for 2 hours a day, and the number of discarded empty cans and bottles of alcohol is enormous, which makes me enormously sad.

@markhornby3135

Absolutely fascinating to hear the subject of alcohol discussed without prejudice. I have known and know people whose lives have been bighted, and shortened by alcohol. I have been guilty of being judgmental in such cases. Now I'm long retired and drink more regularly than when I was working, I think I should look more closely at myself. A really interesting video. Thanks.

@orion9k

30:30 just take theanine or ashwagandha instead of using alcohol for stress and anxiety.
Theanine works instantly within 30minutes to 45minutes and ashwagandha works on both short and long term for stress and angst.
