Mindfulness and mindlessness are a spectrum, so whichever way you lean towards determines your label at the time being. Most people are comfortable living a life that society assigned them instead of one they designed themselves. The main character is focused on self-improvement & spirituality---their evolution and expansion of his consciousness alongside the 9-5 job they must work (so trying their best with what they have).
