Missoula Search and Rescue provides river safety tips

200 2________

Officials with Missoula Search and Rescue say the Clark Fork River is still feeling the impacts of last summer's severe windstorm.

"Something else that's extremely unusual and exceptional this spring. Is an event that happened last July here in Missoula, we had an incredible wind storm, thousands of trees blown down across the county. Now with higher water we're seeing those logs get funneled down river. We're seeing more wood in the water than normal, and in the eddies and along shore. Wood in the water is called a strainer because water moves through it, but people do not. Which should be avoided at all cost. The importance of scouting ahead is more important then ever right now," Claire Seibold, with Missoula County Search and Rescue said.
