SNES Mode 0 Shmup Level Test 1.1 (read the description)

4107 139________

You can see the latest version of the bridge level here:    • SNES Mode 0 [zero sprites used] Test v1.3....

This is a test of how SNES' Mode 0 can be used to display the full four available background layers in a way that was almost never taken full advantage of on the system to create some really nice depth and parallax.

Currently, I'm using Game Maker 8.1 as I don't actually know how to code for SNES. But it's within all the limitations like 3 colours per 8x8 tile, 24 colours per background total, 96 colours for all the backgrounds together, often way less than a couple of hundred unique tiles per background layer, etc, and has been tested by someone on a Super Mario World ROM hack, so I know it's all as it should be.

A few of my levels have already been tested to make sure they do actually work on SNES, one by someone running them on a Super Mario World ROM hack, and another one coded for SNES and tested on SNES emulators directly, so I know it's all as it should be.

It's early days--a lot of the "gameplay" stuff is just placeholder, and there's more levels to come--but let's see where it goes. And hopefully I'll actually be able to get it up and running on a proper SNES at some point soon-ish, or at least output a version for play on a SNES emulator.

Note: Any stuttering as it's scrolling is just some bug with Game Maker 8.1 and wouldn't be there in an actual SNES version.
