I took a stroll through Ikebukuro, a vibrant and fun-filled area located in the northern part of Tokyo. My walk started from the "Gokokuji" temple on the eastern side of Ikebukuro, passing through the lush, quiet residential neighborhood of "Zoshigaya," and ended back in Ikebukuro.
Zoshigaya is a green area, partly due to Zoshigaya Cemetery. Mentioning the names of famous figures such as Natsume Soseki and Takehisa Yumeji, who are buried here, gives a sense of Japanese modern literary history. There’s also the enjoyment of exploring Western-style buildings like the "Zoshigaya Old Missionary Residence" and "Jiyu Gakuen Meiji-kan." One of the highlights is "Kamikawagu Chiya," a traditional confectionery shop with over 200 years of history.
After exploring the area, I wrapped up my walk by checking out the area around Ikebukuro Station, which has been transformed into an "International Arts and Culture City" through redevelopment. This region is filled with fascinating sights, which I’ll introduce in this video.
