People in border villages urge government to build more bunkers for safety | India-Pak ceasefire
Life is slowly returning to normal in villages along the Line of Control and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir, following days of intense cross-border hostilities. While calm prevails for now, many villagers remain uncertain about how long this fragile peace will last. Locals say those who had fled to safer areas are now slowly returning, resuming daily chores and farming. But some never left — for them, leaving their land wasn’t an option. They say they’d rather stay and stand with the army at the frontlines. During the recent heavy artillery shelling, residents took refuge in well-equipped community bunkers to protect themselves. Now, village heads are urging the government to build individual bunkers for each household, so every family has immediate access to safety if shelling resumes.
